Rio Sands Hotel

Really liked the hotel itself and the location is great. Right by the beach. Has a very easy check in and they have free breakfast in the morning 2 things keep this hotel from a PERFECT score. One, the CLEANING STAFF never tidied up my room when I put the sign on my door. Very upsetting especially because I’m traveling with my young daughter. Two, the heater makes a lot of noise when it’s on at night.

I recently stayed at the Rio Sands Hotel in Aptos, California, and had a pleasant experience. The hotel's prime location—just a short walk from Rio Del Mar Beach—made it easy to enjoy the ocean and nearby dining options. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The complimentary breakfast offered a good variety, including a waffle maker, cereals, and fresh fruit. Check in was easy and front desk help were friendly. However not trained as well as they should be, as they struggled to give me a cash receipt. Room was very nice and clean. Clearly rooms have been remodeled recently. I liked the bed as it was firm, and king bed came with four large pillows. They all have balconies or back porch. I would probably recommend downstairs as porches seems nicer. Our room had a small refrigerator and coffee pot. Biggest complaints would be TV never worked. It would turn on but no signal for channels. We were not there to watch TV but like to watch the news. Called several times and were promised someone would come fix it. We stayed three days, and they never came. I see this in other reviews for them so it's clearly an issue that needs to be addressed. Pool and hot tub close too early 9:00PM. Other issue would be their continental breakfast. It's in a beautiful room and lots of seating. Has juice, coffee, waffle maker, toast and cereal. Some sort of yogurt machine that didn't work. So, no yogurt. I prefer something individually package in these situations and yogurt is a must for many people. Also, no flavored creamer, come on these days that's a must. We went and purchase some and left it. Location is good and beach is right there, however it's kind of dirty in that section. You really have to go down the beach a bit to find a nice spot. There is a nice restaurant right at the beach called Venus and I would recommend it. Overall, I would stay there again even though price was a little high for what we got. It's a cute place with friendly help and good location.

Very well located and very tidy motel just blocks from the beach. Also quite well priced compared to other places in the area. Stayed just one night, but would come back for a brief visit. The bed was very comfortable, too.

Such cute hotel walking distance to the beach. I will be back to this town and try to stay here again. Cute and cozy room where they serve the breakfast. Great to have a cup of coffee and something to eat before leaving the hotel. It was clean, and comfortable.

Rio Sands Hotel has a great location, walking distance to the beach - and for the price, it can't be beat. The pool and hot tub area were well-kept. The grounds were clean. There is a lovely gazebo/garden area with a nice fountain, it was perfect for unwinding with a good book to read and some coffee. I got a nice view out of my window too. Janet at the front desk was absolutely delightful. She recommended a place for us to get drinks and food, all within walking distance. We will return again.

A great little mini-hotel with a pool and a hot tub. We tried to check in at 4:05 pm on a Sunday but the room wasn’t ready. We walked down to the beach and had a snack. When we got back, the room was ready. The room had heat, but not AC, so we slept with the back porch sliding door in the open position and I only got a little hot during the night. I would stay here again nonetheless.

What a wonderful stay our family had here! The location is perfect. Its a block from the beach. Our room was awesome. All of the staff here were great. Brooke really stood out. She was so kind and went out of her way multiple times to meet our needs with our room. Its wonderful to feel like we had a home away from home here. I've been coming here since I was a teen and this was the best trip yet! Book here!
